Should the JET Programme be axed?

An article by Charles Januzzi, a teacher at Fukui university that argues that the JET programme should not be ended but should changed radically. Rather than supporting the cultural hegemony (power) of Anglophone (‘native’ English-speaking countries) by bringing ‘native’ speakers to Japan as teachers of English, it should become an English teacher exchange programme between Japan and other countries where English is learnt as an international language, for example Russia and other parts of Asia.
