India’s language divide

This article considers whether English is contributing to greater inequality in India. It looks at the importance of English, the former colonial language, in government and other top jobs, and at the division in the education system between English-medium schools, in which subjects are taught in English, mostly attended by middle class children and state schools for poor children that use Hindi.
